Random thoughts
I spent a good part of today reading articles on the ethics of Methadone Maintenance Treatment. It was very interesting, and a truly delightful break from what I was actually supposed to be reading which was all about cultural studies.
Don't get me wrong, I find cultural studies quite interesting. Musings on cultural studies as an academic discipline, however, really really aren't. And since they followed on from a whole bunch of musings about sociolinguistics for sociologists. Well you understand the appeal of hard core bioethics.
Anyway, I did find out that 16 Oct is international Anti-McDonalds day. Gosh, is about all I can say. Oh I get the whole evil-empire-should-be-stopped thing. I just didn't realise that there was a whole organised movement going on. (Although it is hardly suprising, there is not really a view point, obsession or fetish left uncatered to in the Western world is there?) I am just not a joiner, so I shall continue to restrict myself to a personal boycott thing.
I was also thinking about the word RUTH and why we don't use it anymore, just its negative (if that is the correct term for it).
What does it say about the world when we have a word for the absense of a quality, but we've stopped using it in the positive sense?
Way too much time on my hands.
I think I'll go back to my knitting.
